Living the Grey Shirt – Deacon Matthew Ragbir (from Newsletter #18)

Deacon Matthew Ragbir, 32 years old, attended Fatima College from 1995 to 2002. He was a Deputy Head Prefect, the winner of Our Lady of Fatima Cup and the valedictorian of his Form 6 year. He has been a Brother of Living Water Community, a Lay Catholic Ecclesial movement, since 2003, where he has engaged in missionary work both locally and regionally. From 2007 to 2012 he studied at the Seminary of St. John Vianney and the Uganda Martyrs. He graduated as valedictorian at the Seminary and topped the Faculty of Humanities at U.W.I. in 2012. For the past two years, Matthew has been furthering his studies in Rome, specializing in Sacred Theology in the area of Marriage and Family. He is due to be ordained early 2016. Justice Malcolm Holdip is a High Court Judge and a Fatima alumnus from September 1966 to June 1973. During his tenure at Fatima, he held the premier position of Head Boy at the school. He has served as a Judge in the Family Court on more than one occasion. He has also held many prominent legal positions in the Caribbean Region where he served as Director of Public Prosecutions in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis from 1991 to 1994 and he was appointed Director of Public Prosecutions in Grenada 1997-1999. He held the position of General Counsel of the National Bank Group of Companies in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. This group comprises one of the largest indigenous commercial banks in the OECS, the National Trust Company and the National Insurance Company. He was a member of the Legal team of John Benjamin and Company in Anguilla and also held the prestigious position of President of the Bar Association. Full interview here

Fatima College alumnus, Roger-Mark De Souza, is the Director of Population, Environmental Security, and Resilience at the Woodrow Wilson Center, Washington DC. He leads programs on climate change resilience, reproductive and maternal health, environmental security, and livelihoods, including the Center’s Global Sustainability and Resilience Program, Environmental Change and Security Program, and Maternal Health Initiative. Fatima alumnus and top junior swimmer Dylan Carter was named the First Citizens Sports Foundation Male Youth of the Year 2013 at the Foundation’s Youth Awards ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Friday 31st January 2014. Dylan won silver at the Dubai FINA Junior World Swimming Championships in a national record time in the men’s 50m butterfly event last August. At 25 years of age, Dax Carter (Class of 2005) is rated by some as Trinidad’s leading electric guitarist. He founded his own band, ‘Krash’, in 2005 and is currently the lead guitarist of Orange Sky. He is also the member of the band The Cartars, with his siblings Marie and Phillip. Besides his main instrument, the electric guitar, he also plays the piano. He was prepared to take the grade 8 practical piano exam but he was prevented from doing so by a near-fatal car crash plus the death of his Dad within the same year. More Here.
